Below is an article – about a church in Denver. This is not “Pastor Smith”, but there are very close similarities. Notice the Multi-Level Marketing tie? Hmmmm…..

Though I’m loathe to criticize ministries here in Denver (or anywhere), sometimes they simply deserve to be brought into the light. Heritage is a mega-ministry that seems to scurry into the corner when questions of financial management are asked.
Interesting to note that there is another story linked to this archival piece about Pastor Haggard that shows up in the current stories along the side. The link http://www.denverpost.com/commented/ci_6715372 tells how Ted is seeking to have his followers that he betrayed continue to support him and his family. Now forgiveness is one thing but I think you still need to face the consequences of your sin and that might just be that God’s people no longer pay your bills. Or….maybe I’m the one that needs to be more forgiving.
Hi Pastor Warren –
I agree with you regarding the criticism of ANY ministry…my wife and I have had long discussions surrounding this. It is somewhat for that reason that we use pseudonyms for our former church…we’re thinking of changing that as we’re watching more and more heretical teaching and obvious “pimpery” going on.
It physically sickens me to see how scripture is twisted to meet the needs of the “man of God”. I saw a statement recently that really hit home – think how many folks could be fed, clothed, and cared for for the price of a mansion, mercedes, and private jet….makes you think, doesn’t it?
Thanks again for your commment – God Bless!
I am also careful what I say about ministries. However, Heritage has been brushing serious problems under the rug for years. I’m surprised that church is still as popular as it is.
We’re surprised, too, that Heritage continues to be so popular.
But, the one thing you CAN say about Heritage is, they are open about their shady pasts…financial irregularities notwithstanding.
